Terrorism Suspect Asks Judge to Dismiss Charges, Citing Torture and Undue Delay

Citing a long wait for trial and abuses suffered while in detention, Ahmed Ghailani’s lawyers on Tuesday sought to have his case dismissed. Ghailani is being prosecuted for his alleged involvement with the 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He has been held in U.S. custody since he was apprehended in Pakistan in 2004 and later transferred to Guantanamo Bay. Ghailani is the first Guantanamo detainee to be brought before a U.S. federal court.
