On Friday, a motorcycle bomb on a main street in Karachi exploded as a bus carrying Shia celebrating Arbaeen passed, killing at least 12 and wounding 40. A second bomb exploded, killing at least ten more, at a nearby hospital where the wounded from the first explosion were evacuated.
A reporter in Islamabad said that this attack was similar to other bombings perpetrated by the Pakistani Taliban and Tehrik–i–Taliban, aimed at destabilizing Karachi, the “financial heart” of Pakistan.
