Tunisia's President Wins Fifth Term

President Zine al–Abidine Ben Ali won a fifth term in Tunisia’s presidential election according to Monday’s vote tallies. In Ben Ali’s twenty-two years as president, he has gained favor from Western Nations for establishing a moderate government that has acted as a bulwark against Islamist extremism in the region. International human rights groups have questioned the repressive atmosphere of the recent election as well as Tunisia’s record on democracy. Ben Ali came to power in 1987 and won this election by a landslide.
