U.S. Marines and Afghan troops have launched a new offensive in the Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan. A military spokesman said that Taliban communications and supply lines were the target of the offensive. New troops to Afghanistan will likely be sent to the south. About 1,000 Marines are participating in the offensive with 150 Afghan troops taking part in the operation. About 300 mines and roadside bombs had been uncovered. Additionally, several arms’ caches and 400 pounds of explosive materials had been discovered as well.
