Ongoing debates regarding the role of government in Internetsecurity remain strong as the latest version of the Cybersecurity act was revealed. Currently private companies argue they are best positioned to counter any widespread Internet threats, as they own 80% of the web. These threats are prevalent in the government sector. Just this year hackers broke into the Pentagon’s $300 billion Joint Strike Fighter project and were able to disrupt the Air Force’s air-traffic-control system. Sources like Mellisa Hathaway, former cybersecurity advisor for the White House, note the necessity of being able to deal with real time threats in a digital age.
