Safer International Air Travel

International air travel security continues to be at the forefront of Secretary Janet Napolitano’s agenda.  She made stops in Toledo, Spain and Geneva, Switzerland to meet with leaders in the airline industry from around the world.  Napolitano met with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents 230 airlines and over 90% of air traffic worldwide.  The obvious topic was the goal of increasing safety for air travelers towards which Napolitano outlined four overarching goals: “improving information collection and analysis; increasing information sharing and collaboration in passenger vetting; enhancing international security standards; and deploying new screening technology.”
