Indicating their opposition to Obama’s recent requests that congressional committees slow their probe into the Fort Hood shootings on November 5, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday called for a Congressional investigation alleged intelligence failures leading up to the shootings. Republicans say that delaying investigations will delay legislative efforts to create tools for the military to prevent future incident. Democrats responded that it was too early for such a congressional inquiry. Intelligence officials also indicated that they were still in the preliminary stages of gathering sufficient evidence about Maj. Nidal Hasan’s background and could not likely present complete information in a public hearing at present. Read more at the NYT and WP.
