Political Support lost in Japan for U.S. Base

In a strategic loss, an opponent of a military base in Okinawa planned by the U.S. has won a closely contested mayoral election this weekend. The U.S. military base, a limelighted issue in the elections is putting further strain between the two allies and indiciating breakdowns between Japan’s and the United States’ allieship.
