With bilateral negotiations at a standstill, Palestinian leaders have announced that they are considering requesting recognition of statehood from the U.N. Security Council. Palestinian officials have been unsatisfied with US-led peace efforts.
Israel reacted to the proposal by declaring it would respond by annexing more of the West Bank territory. Israeli leaders have emphasized their position that Palestinian statehood will not come about without including Israel in the dialogue.
