On December 1, Northrop Grumman informed the Air Force that it may not bid on the contract to replace the Air Force’s aging aerial refueling fleet. If Northrop were to withdraw, it would leave Boeing as the sole bidder to the $40 billion contract.
Market analysts think it unlikely that Northrop would actually withdraw from the process. This is similar to the last failed attempt at awarding a winner, when Boeing, solely to bolster a potential bid protest, threatened to pull out of the bidding process. Boeing eventually won that protest.
