NATO Forces Remain Engaged in Afghanistan

An airstrike yesterday in south Afghanistan resulted in a death toll of at least 27 people. The strike was carried out by NATO forces who continue to battle Taliban resistance throughout the region.

According to its Afghanistan task force, Sunday’s offensive targeted a group of vehicles that NATO believed to be carrying several insurgents. The insurgents were reportedly on their way to execute an attack against local peacekeeping forces. While NATO did not release its own estimate regarding the strike, Uruzgan’s deputy mayor indicated that at least 27 people – including five women and a child – had died as a result of the airstrike.
