This week, U.S. officials disapproved of the Jerusalem Planning Committee’s preliminary approval to build more than 800 new homes on land in Jerusalem claimed by Palestinians. The Obama Administration requested that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu postpone the “Western Slopes of Gilo” project because it could impede the Administration’s attempts to lull the impasse between Israel and Palestine. However, Netanyahu’s office claimed that the project was supported nationally and that Gilo was a neighborhood like any other in Jerusalem where he could build.
