Iran Forms Committee to Thwart U.S. ‘Plots’

In Iran, a panel composed of the Ministries of Information, Interior and Foreign Affairs has been created for the purposes of combating what it calls American “plots.” The FARS news agency reports that this special committee has a $20 million budget to fight American schemes against Iran. While the report does not mention what the plots are specifically or how the committee would work against them, Fatemeh Alia, head of the Human Right Commission of the Parliamentary National Security Committee, said that the committee will not keep its focus limited to “American human rights abuses since the Americans employ a variety of subversive plots against Iran and other developing countries.” The committee was formed just months after Iran accused the U.S. of stirring up protests over the country’s disputed presidential election held in June.
