Two separate helicopter incidents have left 14 Americans dead. In Western Afghanistan, a single helicopter crash killed 3 embassy employees and 7 military soldiers. In South Afghanistan, 2 coalition helicopters collided in the air and killed 4 American soldiers. Neither of the crashes are believed to be caused by ground gunfire from opposition forces. The personnel in the western Afghanistan crash had just been involved in a search of a compound believed to have been used by insurgents that engage in drug trafficking. The military is investigating both incidents.
