Fort Hood Gunman Updates: Links to 9/11 Terrorists; Army General Worries About Potential Backlash

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Army psychiatrist behind the recent Fort Hood shootings evidently attended the same mosque as two of the men who carried out the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan reportedly worshiped at the Dar al-Hijrahmosque, located in Virginia, while controversial imam Anwar al-Awlaki was the mosque’s preacher. US officials have alleged that al-Awlaki supports al-Qaeda and encourages acts of terrorism.

Army Chief of Staff George Casey has advised against assumptions based on Hasan’s purported religious motivation. “I’m concerned that this increased speculation could cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers. And I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that,” Gen. Casey said.
