Blackwater Accused of Running Covert Operations in Pakistan

The Nation published an article Monday accusing Blackwater of planning assassinations and running “snatch and grab”  operations in Pakistani territory out of a base in Afghanistan. The firm has also been implicated in surveillance and remote drone bombing operations that have become very unpopular in Pakistan.

The Nation also reported that these operations are different from assassination plans CIA director Leon Panetta disclosed earlier this year. Unlike that plan, it is alleged that these are functional operations dating back to at least 2007. It is also alleged that these operations were carried out under an agreement between the US and Pakistan made in 2006 that would allow the US to carry out such operations on Pakistani territory. Both Xe—Blackwater’s new moniker—and the government of the US deny all allegations.
