On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder spoke to reporters about the progress being made in determining the trial locations for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9/11 plotters, indicating that the administration is “working on it” and “close to the decision.” Last year the White House and Holder had said that the government intended to try these high profile detainees in the Southern District of Manhattan (and backtracked after national outcr
y), but then this past spring the Washington Post reported that the administration was leaning toward using a military tribunal. Military tribunals certainly now seem like the more politically feasible approach, given the midterm results and Republicans' near unanimous position against having the trials on U.S. soil.
