In a huge blow to President Obama’s Mideast peace talks, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has decided not to take part in the negotiations until Israel freezes all settlement in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Obama’s envoy, George Mitchell, is scheduled to leave the region after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but failing to bring Abbas to the negotiating table. The main issue between the two parties is the refusal of Israel to slow down construction in East Jerusalem, a section of the city where Palestinians want to install their capital. Mr. Mitchell has said that the U.S. will continue to push for a peace settlement and will not abandon this extremely difficult and complicated peace process. For more visit the BBC or Haaretz.
